Server and Compute Hosts Settings

  1. The server must be installed as follows:
    1. Package selections
      All RPM packages distributed with Fedora Core or Red Hat must be installed.
    2. No Firewall setting
      No firewall setting is required because nfsd and rlogind facilities must be enabled.
    3. FQDN
      The host name must be specified with a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).
      For example, server.pccluster.org, instead of just the host name server

  2. All compute hosts must be installed as follows in case of manual installation:
    1. Package selections
      All RPM packages distributed with Fedora Core 3 must be installed.
    2. Disk partition
      When choosing the filesystems to create, we recommend creating a file system called /scored with a space of 1GB for checkpointing.
    3. No Firewall setting
      No firewall setting is required because rshd facility must be enabled.
    4. FQDN
      The host name must be specified with a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).
      For example, comp0.pccluster.org, instead of just the host name comp0
    5. Allow rsh by root
      rsh by root is required to make PM/ethernet config file and to start SCore-D multi user mode.
      Please add rsh in /etc/securetty as folows:
          # echo rsh >> /etc/securetty
      
      Note that you must enable rshd(8) as folows:
          # /sbin/chkconfig rsh on
