Hello Martin,

try http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/NIS-HOWTO/index.html to set up a nis slave server.

Be sure, you don't use ypserv-2.2-9 from standart RedHat 7.3, it has some small bugs with ypinit -s.
ypserv-2.5-2.7x is the lastest Update that RedHat offers.
